Liberty Swing unveiled

Swinging through the air is a sensation most of us have taken for granted throughout our childhood.
However, thanks to the Southern Downs Regional Council, Rotary Warwick, the Apex Club of Warwick and Variety Queensland, children with physical impairments or in wheelchairs will now be given the opportunity to create these same happy memories.
A Variety Liberty Swing is currently under installation and will be the latest addition to works undertaken at Leslie Park in Warwick.
The Liberty Swing will enable children of all abilities to play together, and is the first of its kind for Warwick.
Funding was supported by the Southern Downs Regional Council and via the generosity of Rotary Warwick.
Fifty additional keys, which allow the bearer access to any Liberty Swing across Australia are being funded by the Apex Club of Warwick.
“Members from Rotary Warwick are delighted to see installation is underway after many months of planning, fundraising and campaigning for what is such an important community asset,” said Warwick Rotary Club President Lewis von Stieglitz.
“I would like to thank everyone involved in the project, but particular special thanks must go to Gary Lang who participates in the Variety Queensland Bash as car 150 and has been instrumental in this whole process,” said Lewis.
Apex Warwick, Rotary Warwick, Warwick Rotary Sunrise and Variety Queensland have also replaced the Glennie Heights Scouts shed.
Over 45 youth members of the group and other scout groups in the region will benefit from the use of equipment stored at Warwick.
On Thursday, August 18 a convoy of vehicles like no other departed from Hervey Bay to explore the stunning
Queensland countryside. Participants in this year’s Bash will visit 17 schools along the way, leaving in their wake equipment and learning resources funded by generous Variety supporters and sponsors.
Hundreds of eager “Bashers” converged on Leslie Park at 7am on Saturday, August 20 to officially present signage for the Liberty Swing and to acknowledge the funding of the new Glennie Heights Scouts Shed.
The annual Variety Bash is Australia’s most successful charity motoring event and is the focal point of fundraising efforts for hundreds of Variety supporters.
The money raised empowers children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs throughout Queensland to live, laugh and learn. Since 1990, the XXXX Gold Variety Bash in particular, has raised more than $15 million for children and children’s organisations across Queensland.
