International intrigue at Inglewood

Inglewood shoppers could have been forgiven for thinking they had stepped back in time last Saturday when a fully restored 1935 model C20 International Harvester Truck did a Lap of Honour down the main street then stopped over at the Commercial Hotel for a photo shoot.
Driver of the truck was Mick Collins of Southbrook.
Mick is one of a trio of craftsmen who, over the past four months, carried out the faithful restoration in his workshop at Southbrook.
His co-workers, Doug Head and Russ Hoffman, were on hand to witness the truck’s maiden run.
It had been a challenging project, with attention being given to every detail to make the restoration as authentic as possible.
Two major hurdles which had been overcome were the reconstruction of the cabin roof and fuel tank.
They said, considering the amount of time and effort put into the restoration, the end result was very pleasing and rewarding.
Passenger and Guest of Honour on the day was Margaret Tait of Inglewood, who had given the truck to Mick Collins to restore some time ago.
Margaret is the wife of the late Bob Tait – former International Harvester and Toyota dealer of Inglewood and Goondiwindi.
Earlier in the day the vehicle was inspected by brothers Jack and Bert Elsley whose father, the late Mr B O Elsley, had been the original owner.
Later this month the truck will be displayed at the Winton Truck Show, with the possibility of appearing at other shows in the future.
