Work starts on Leslie Park playground

Being physically active is crucial to a child’s development; we all remember how exciting it is as a child to run and play in an active, challenging playground.
Now Leslie Park, Warwick, is set to get its own brand new exciting playground with five new sets of equipment for a total cost of $131,818.
Southern Downs Regional Council has started a transformation of the Leslie Park playground opposite the Warwick Police Station.
The council’s parks and gardens staff have begun by removing most of the existing play equipment.
“Most of the existing equipment is outdated and does not meet current Australian Safety Standards, so we have no choice but to remove it,” Parks coordinator John Newley said.
“Fortunately the much-loved boat swings and roundabout can stay,” Mr Newley said.
“We’re excited to then be installing five brand new state-of-the-art playground apparatus, creating a fun and challenging physical environment for children of all ages and abilities,” he said.
This includes two 4m high Activity Nets connected by a web bridge, a bird’s nest swing, a twin swing set, a multi-level play fort structure with slides and a Liberty Swing for children with disabilities confined to a wheelchair.
“The Liberty Swing is possible, thanks to the fundraising and support of local service clubs and the council,” Mr Newley said.
“It enables children confined to a wheelchair to enjoy the freedom of swinging through the air that most children simply take for granted.
“We’re very proud to enhance the quality of life for children with disabilities, and their families, both local and visiting, by installing this swing, and many thanks go to the service clubs who have supported it.”
All structures will be installed with large soft fall areas to cushion any bumps and scapes.
