Ozcare arrives in Warwick

Health and human services provider Ozcare has opened an office in Warwick in response to calls for more community care services across the Southern Downs and Granite Belt.
Ozcare state manager for community care Lanna Ramsay said the facility had been two years in the planning and would make life easier for hundreds of struggling residents in Warwick, Stanthorpe and surrounding areas, including Allora, Killarney, Clifton and out to Wallangarra on the border.
“The services Ozcare provide make it possible for many people to remain self-sufficient and enjoy living in their own homes,” Ms Ramsay said.
“Living independently is something many of us take for granted but, within the community, there are plenty of elderly people who are barely managing to care for themselves or a loved one suffering dementia or other age-related conditions,” she said.
“Having access to domestic assistance, personal care, social support, meal preparation and delivery, transport and nursing services could make all the difference to people and their quality of life.
“Ozcare also cares for the carers, offering respite for those who find it difficult to do simple things like shopping for groceries, working shifts or simply switching off for a few hours from the demands of looking after a frail loved one.”
Ozcare’s decision to open an office in Warwick is the latest step in the health and human services provider’s plan to offer a diverse range of services to people living in rural, regional and remote areas across Queensland.
The Warwick office has opened with five employees, but Ozcare is actively recruiting for more care workers in anticipation of increased demand for services.
The office also provides general nursing, immunisation services and dementia support, along with assistance to rural families who are facing difficulties due to isolation or considering relocating to urban areas.
An open day was held on Tuesday, with about 80 people in attendance, including Southern Downs Regional Mayor Ron Bellingham.
Ozcare is a leading not-for-profit organisation, which has been dedicated to providing the highest standards in community and health services to the frail, aged and disadvantaged across Queensland for the past 16 years.
