Last year’s floods exemplified the importance of the State Emergency Service (SES) unit in Warwick, but without volunteers, this vital service would not exist.
SES volunteers have assisted the community during flood and storm damage and search and rescue, but some of them have now left Warwick, so more volunteers are needed.
A recruitment drive will be held from 7.30pm Tuesday at the Warwick headquarters behind the Warwick Town Hall.
Local controller John Newley said any prospective volunteers would be able to inspect the facilities and talk to existing members on a one-to-one basis to see if SES is for them.
“All SES volunteers undertake a criminal check. The biggest requirement is for people to be reasonably fit,” Mr Newley said.
He said anyone aged 18 or over could join the SES with a number of tasks to be undertaken from on-field work to office-based jobs.
“People who volunteer generally get a good feeling about helping out their community.
“I find it very rewarding to be a member of the SES. This is my 34th year and I’ve met some tremendous people.
“We find our local unit is a big orange family that supports each other,” Mr Newley said.
