Vandals strike Allora’s new playground

Southern Downs Regional Council officers were dismayed last week to find the new playground at Stuart Henry Park in Allora vandalised before it has even been opened.
The playground has been a closed off worksite while the council removed the old play gear and replaced it with a modern playground that meets current Australian standards.
Last week a person or persons unknown have entered the work area and vandalised the new birds’ nest swing by cutting the swing’s ropes.
“It is disappointing that there is a destructive few who seek to spoil what will be a great new asset for the rest of the community,” director of engineering services Peter See said.
“We have had to take the swing down and order chains instead of the rope style swing supports to support the basket,” Mr See said.
“We’ve also had people ignoring signage and entering the closed zone where we are installing the new playground for Chase Estate Park in Warwick,” he said.
“Apart from the danger of entering a construction site without authorisation, turf has recently been laid and needs the chance to take root without being walked on.
“We’re asking Allora and Warwick residents to keep an eye out for anything untoward happening in these new playground areas and to contact the council or the police if they notice suspicious behaviour.”
Both Stuart Henry Park and Chase Estate Park have had soft fall and turf installed and are due to be opened on Wednesday.
