Dreadlock funds for Rosies

The second annual Dreads Against Drugs fundraiser run by Michelle Michelin-Law of Earth Wear Eco Fashions has handed Rosies a cheque for $945.
The money was raised in the form of sponsorship by some very brave volunteers, each of whom had their hair “dreaded” to show support for Rosies Youth Mission.
Rosies operate an outreach service/food van to the poor and homeless in Warwick.
Junior fundraiser Lydia Gibson raised $150 and opted for many mini plaits, which she kept in for two weeks.
Lydia noted the hardest part of participating was not finding sponsors but not being able to brush her hair for the two weeks.
Teen fundraiser Mahala McLeod raised a whopping $355.40, which included gift vouchers from The Book Warehouse in Rose City Shoppingworld and a generous cheque from “Cutz 4 All” on Percy Street. Mahala also kept her “temporary dreads” in for a couple of weeks.
Nic Dromgold, owner of Label 45, The Record Store in Funky Fitzroy Street, managed to get his customers to donate $116.40.
The collection tin at Earth Wear Eco Fashions raised $308.20.
Michelle and Rosies wish to thank all involved and advise tax receipts are now being distributed.
Michelle also upcycled some old wool blankets from the op shop into “Street Ponchos”, something that can be worn during the day or night to keep very warm in our freezing winters.
Michelle has passed on the “blueprint” of Dreads Against Drugs to Rosies’ newly appointed Queensland fundraising coordinator at their Brisbane head office.
