Book strikes mindful chord

The stigma associated with mental illness has inspired local author Barbara Potter to put pen to paper and write a moving book of poetry to express her thoughts and concerns.
Barbara said she used some of her own life’s experiences to bring together her prized book of poems ‘Identity of the Mind’.
“I started out life as a young kid in Albury and after a few subsequent moves ended up in Tenterfield 14 years ago when my youngest daughter was three-months-old,” she said.
“I love Tenterfield; it has come to mean home to me and I never want to leave here.
“I have written a book on my life in general.
“It is a book about both social and mental health issues.
“It is also dedicated to a lovely person who is no longer able to appreciate what I have done, but will remain in my heart always.”
Barbara said her poetry book is outspoken on many issues.
“But the ones I really like to focus on, are the stigma issues associated with mental illness and community misinformation on the subject,” she said.
“There are a number of poems that reflect my views concerning stigma and prejudice.
“That is why I am doing a book launch on April 20 at the Tenterfield Town Library at 11.30am with light refreshments provided.”
All are welcome to the inspiring launch, Barbara said.
