State Member for Southern Downs Lawrence Springborg travelled to the southern limits of his electorate recently to officiate at Wallangarra State School’s leaders ceremony.
Wallangarra is Mr Springborg’s ancestral home and he happily attends the ceremony each year. He presented school badges to each student who has joined the school, and donated a new Queensland flag to fly on the school flagpole.
School patron Stan Reid was also on hand to help with the formalities, as were the school’s adopt-a-cops Sergeant Bruce Willett and Senior Constable Brad Bowser from Wallangarra Police, putting a friendly face on the long arm of the law.
Wallangarra has a 13-strong prep class this year and six new students who have integrated well into higher classes, so there were plenty of school badges to hand out. Mr Springborg also presented this year’s school leaders Hayley Alldridge and William Smith with their captain’s badges, as well as house captains Kate Saxby, Felicity Smith, Samantha Blair and Scarlet Hawksworth with their sports captain’s badges. Students, teachers, staff, parents and dignitaries wrapped up proceedings by sharing an impressive morning tea spread provided by parents.
