Double trouble

It’s double trouble this weekend at Lawdogs Australia as their latest puppy arrivals will be on show for the first time over the long weekend.
Two new eight-week-old German Shepherds who are both brothers will hit the training arena for fun and games as they embark on their law enforcement training adventure.
Owner Matt Hibberd said, “We are always trying to showcase a full range of dogs in our show, from new puppies to trained adults. These puppies will spend about a year here undergoing law enforcement training.”
The highly acclaimed Stanthorpe-based tourist attraction is now drawing attention from security firms and dog handlers around Australia, due to its successful, positive-based dog training methods.
“We are producing a higher standard of graduate dogs going into the protection field and are now being recognised as a preferred supplier to security firms seeking balanced dogs that can safely protect their handlers in high risk situations,” Mr Hibberd said.
“It’s nice to have interstate inquiries from places like Sydney and Melbourne, which benefits the area, as clients stay overnight at local accommodation places and visit wineries while they’re here,” he said.
“Our focus is very much heading towards puppy development at the moment as getting the right start in life imprints the dogs for future training, no matter where the dogs go.”
Young recruits will also be joining the staff roster soon as Stanthorpe High School students will be hosted at Lawdogs Australia over the coming weeks for work experience and will get some hands-on training with the two new puppies.
The Lawdogs Australia ‘dog show with bite’ is open to the public every day this long weekend at 11am and 2pm and features everything from the new puppies up to trained adult dogs doing demonstrations of protection and detection work. You can see the dogs in action at 335 Church Road, The Summit.
