This Saturday, the Granite Belt Choir will be pulling out all the stops—literally.
The choir will present its own version of the famous Kings College Christmas performance, right down to the tradition of processing in singing “Once in Royal David’s City”.
This is as far from a little group singing carols down the street as you can get.
The gorgeous St Paul’s Anglican Church pipe organ will be a special feature of the concert, and yes, all the stops will be pulled out on a couple of occasions!
Unlike the Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols at Kings College, Cambridge, the Stanthorpe version will contain only music.
The organ will have a couple of chances to shine on its own, but most of the time the audience will be treated to a combination of wonderful carols accompanied by the pipe organ, mostly played by local musician Michael Lynch.
The Celebration of Carols will feature a combination of full choir and small group, along with cameo appearances by young stars Daniel Whitfort and Matthew Manahan.
In the giving tradition of Christmas, four people will have the chance to do some conducting—Jenel Hunt, Amanda Reimers, Peter Gasparin and Peggy Channon. Choir conductor of more than 30 years, Jeanene Chapman gave this gift by going away for an extended Christmas holiday!
The music has been chosen to share a taste of really beautiful classical Christmas pieces interspersed with well known English carols … and the audience is invited to sing along to the popular ones.
The Celebration of Carols will be the final performance of the choir in 2012 and we think it will be the highlight of the choir year.
So, don’t bring presents. Honour us with your presence and hear a program of beautiful Christmas music presented by your local choir at the St Paul’s Anglican Church in Corundum Street.
The concert will start at 4pm, and entry is by donation.
