Closure of Warwick-Allora Road

The Department of Transport and Main Roads advises the Warwick-Allora Road is closed to all traffic, due to significant damage caused by flooding in Glengallan Creek.

The closure is effective between Upper Wheatvale Road and Massie Willowvale Road, known locally as Glengallan Flats.

Floodwaters from the Glengallan Creek washed away parts of the road and the road shoulders, and caused severe erosion around culverts.

This section of road was under reconstruction prior to the Australia Day weekend flood event. Contractors have returned to the work site and urgent repairs will be carried out over the coming weeks.

For the safety of motorists and road workers, there will be no access through this site. Residents and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes, such as the New England Highway, until further notice.

Damage assessments are underway at another site on Warwick-Allora Road, three kilometres from Warwick, (near the John Dee meat processing plant). The road was closed at this location on January 24 to enable reconstruction of a flood-damaged section of the road next to the Condamine River. This site was also affected by the flooding in the latest event. TMR will advise motorists as soon as possible about the status of this section of the road, following the damage assessments.

These Operation Queenslander works are being delivered through Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), a joint federal and state initiative. Under NDRRA, the Australian Government provides 75 per cent of the funding, with 25 per cent from the Queensland Government.
