The Braeside homestead, situated between Stanthorpe and Warwick, will be the venue for this Sunday’s orienteering event organised by the local Bullecourt Boulder Bounders Club.
This grazing property was first mapped and used by the club for orienteering in 2000 and its open undulating terrain has made it ideal for the sport, especially for newcomers.
As the first bush event for the club this year, a good attendance of local orienteerers is expected.
There should also be orienteerers from Toowoomba’s Range Runners Club competing on Sunday, especially their junior members getting in some practice ahead of the Darling Downs Schools trials being held at Dalveen on March 18.
Apart from the four courses for more experienced orienteerers, Sunday’s event will also have a short, easy course suitable for beginners; and instruction on the basic map reading and navigational skills will also be available.
Local people who would like to find out more about the sport of orienteering are most welcome to come along and try it out.
Starting times will be from 9am to 11am and the assembly area will be signposted off Crystal Mountain Road, approximately 27km north of Stanthorpe or 28km south of Warwick, off the New England Highway.
