THE appointment of former NSW Deputy Premier John Watkins as Chancellor of the University of New England has been welcomed by the Independent Member for New England, Tony Windsor.
Mr Watkins was elected chancellor by the University Council yesterday.
Mr Windsor is delighted by the appointment.
“I have already had the pleasure of working with Mr Watkins, when we were both serving in the NSW Parliament,” Mr Windsor said.
“I have found Mr Watkins to be both effective and honourable.
“He comes to the UNE highly qualified as a former NSW Deputy Premier and Education Minister, and the current CEO of Alzheimer’s Australia.
“I am sure he will make an excellent chancellor and I look forward to working with him again in his new role,” Mr Windsor said.
