Joy riders set cattle loose

By JONATHON HOWARD

PROPERTY owners around Leslie Dam Road and Link Road awoke to find their fencing down and cattle roaming the streets, after weekend joy riders drove through property gates and trashed fencing.
Warwick Police have seized a white Toyota Hilux believed to have been used in the joyride – which was expected to cost thousands of dollars in gate and fencing repairs.
Ray and Norma Scotney were among the victims and said they had a horrible time trying to round up cattle which had scatted throughout the area.
“Our neighbours also had a terrible time trying to get cattle back and secure their fences,” Mrs Scotney said.
“It was a terrible and mindless act.”
Police are using forensic investigators to track down the offenders, and have also urged witnesses to come forward.
The wilful damage to property occurred between Friday, 3 May, at 7.30pm and the early hours of Saturday, 4 May.
The vehicle was found at the scene and appeared to have been abandoned after it rolled.
Police have seized the vehicle as part of their investigation.
Anyone with information can contact Warwick Police on 4660 4444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
