Plan pushes youth services

SOUTHERN Downs regional councillors were asked to consider and adopt the Youth Action Plan 2013-14, during their general meeting in Stanthorpe yesterday, 22 May.
The plan was developed during a Youth Action Plan meeting held on 13 March this year.
The meeting identified the top eight youth issues that included bullying, drug and alcohol issues, employment, health and education, violence, homelessness, participation in sport and activities, truancy and disengagement.
Council worked in partnership with the Young Ambassador and Young Delegate Program to develop the plan, which required extensive discussion and planning.
A new health and wellbeing heading was also expected to be added to the Youth Action Plan after it was recommended by councillors, council staff and the Young Ambassador and Young Delegate team.
Among the goals for the plan were for council to develop, enhance, promote and implement services for young people; recognise and respond to the different social needs and influences on various communities within the Southern Downs; hold regular community events where local groups can showcase their activities and attract participation from new people; and strengthen communication networks within communities and across the region.
