Reservoir works on tap

CRACKS appearing in Tenterfield’s main water reservoir, East St, have prompted action from the local council this week.
Tenterfield Shire Council commenced work on the installation of a new liner for the East St Reservoir on Monday.
Works are expected to last two weeks and residents located in Derby St, East St, Mt Lindesay Rd and Mt Mackenzie Rd will experience less water pressure.
Since it was built in the 1930s, the two megalitre East St Reservoir has been the main reservoir servicing Tenterfield and is an essential part of maintaining the water pressure, particularly to the higher residences in town.
During routine inspections late last year, it was noticed that the concrete reservoir was starting to show cracks and was leaking water.
After extensive engineering investigation council officers determined the most economical and reliable method of repair was to install a liner to the tank.
“We have waited to install the liner until the demand for water is at its lowest”, Director of Engineering, Dennis Gascoigne said.
“We aim to have the reservoir out of service for as little a time as possible and ask residents to be patient during this time, as pressure will be lower, particularly in the higher residences located in Derby St and East St and the end of line residences located on the Mt Lindesay Road and Mt Mackenzie Road.”
This essential repair work commenced on Monday, 17 June, and was expected to take less than two weeks.
Residents may experience low pressure and/or discoloured water in the days leading up to and during the work.
