Things are warming up at Stanthorpe Little Theatre

Stanthorpe’s theatre-goers are assured of an even warmer welcome at Stanthorpe Little Theatre for this winter’s productions now that new heaters have been installed.
The Little Theatre warmly thanks Aperitif Jazz Ensemble, Teri Welles and Lee Williams who presented a “jazzy day of croons and tunes” in April, hosted by Robert and Peggy Channon at their Singing Lake Café, to raise funds towards the new heating system.
The Stanthorpe Little Theatre committee is also grateful to Walter Mattarollo at Hot Copper for helping to source effective and affordable heating.
Those who attended Karlee Mattiazi’s concert last week agreed that the new heating made a big difference.
“It’s really nice and cosy. Now the audience can be as hot as the performances. And it’s also a great benefit for other people who use the theatre for functions and rehearsals,” cast member Kerry Marie said.
The theatre is currently bustling with rehearsals, painting, set building and cleaning bees for this year’s upcoming productions.
At the end of May, Stanthorpe Little Theatre is proud to present The Cemetery Club, a wise, witty and poignant comedy about friendship, love and letting go as three mature widows come to terms with the single life, and the complications of one available widower.
Directed by Veronica Hammond, performances include evening sessions on Friday, May 27, Saturday, May 28 and Saturday, June 4 plus a Sunday matinee on May 29. Tickets are now available for purchase at Granite News Stanthorpe. As seating is limited, advance purchase of tickets is recommended.
Fast on the heels of The Cemetery Club is a panto, Captain Hook’s Revenge in July, directed by Judy Flitcroft, then a musical collaboration between Granite Belt Choir and Little Theatre in August, followed by a Stanthorpe Divas concert in October and Shakespeare under the Stars play at Bungawarra winery in November.
This year’s Shake-speare will be The Comedy of Errors, for which there is a casting call for Monday, May 16 at 7pm at the Little Theatre.
Director Lee Williams said it is an open audition and members of the general public are encouraged to try out for a part.
“We’re always looking for new actors, especially young ones and we’re a warm and friendly bunch, so come along and join us – we’re even warmer now,” Lee said.
