Gardens open for the last time

As part of the Tenterfield Food and Wine Festival, “Glenrock Gardens”, just north of Tenterfield, will be opening for the last time from 10am to 5pm both Saturday and Sunday. The gardens have opened several times under the Australian Open Garden Scheme and were the most-visited gardens in NSW, north of Sydney. The gardens have been featured on television several times and, in 2006, the viewers and readers of Better Homes and Gardens voted Glenrock as Australia’s Best Garden, from about 20 finalists. They have also been featured in numerous magazines and gardening books. Many residents in the area have planned to visit, so they should know that this weekend will be their last chance to experience this local attraction before it is offered for sale by auction on November 25. The blossoms are looking magnificent at present and the spring rains have brought a mass of colour and growth to the whole area. All 14 waterholes are full and are home to an impressive range of bird life. The large display of roses is just coming out, and the gardens have probably never looked better. Visitors should also keep an eye open for wallabies with their joeys as they drive through the bush area on the way in. There is an entry fee of $5 per person.
