Dress up for Australia Day

Warwick’s Australia Day celebrations will take a colourful turn as children are encouraged to dress with Australian inspiration.
Event organiser Tracy Vellacott congratulated the Rotary Club of Warwick on again sponsoring an Aussie dress-up competition to lift the vibe of the celebrations.
“It’s fantastic that the Rotary Club is right behind the event and we appreciate their enthusiasm to make the day extra patriotic for children,” Mrs Vellacott said.
Rotary Club treasurer Maria Maloney has a stack of movie pass prizes to give away for winning outfits.
“Last year we enjoyed a sea of red, white and blue as well as a true-blue swaggie and a little Merv Hughes who was hoping for a bit of bowling action in the park,” Ms Maloney said.
“Club members are keen to see what Aussie flavour children and their parents can come up with this year,” she said.
Victoria Park could be the ideal place to sight ‘Skippy the Bush Kangaroo’.
“When you think about some of the amazing icons of Australian culture, there is no end to the possibilities for dressing with Australian inspiration,” Mrs Vellacott said.
“Ideas could come from the varied Australian landscape, its distinct wildlife, or Australian historical figures, modern celebrities and fictional characters.
“Heroes of folklore like Ned Kelly and characters such as Dame Edna, Steve Irwin and Paul Hogan spring to mind, even much-loved television characters like Ted Bullpit, Kylie Mole or Strop.”
