Be waterwise

National Water Week is an annual awareness week that aims to improve community understanding of water issues in Australia. It is Australia’s only national water awareness week and this year runs from October 21 to 27.
The Southern Downs Regional Council has adopted water conservation measures as part of its ongoing commitment to being Waterwise. These restrictions apply to all towns in the Southern Downs Region with a reticulated water supply.
Council’s Drought Manage-ment Plan contains four levels of restrictions: permanent water conservation measures, medium; high; and extreme restriction levels. Permanent water conservation measures are currently in force and will be in force, even when water supplies are plentiful.
“Maintaining permanent water conservation measures will be an ongoing reminder to residents and businesses alike to use water efficiently at all times,” said Peter See, Council’s Director Engineering Services.
“Council is committed to managing water effectively and efficiently so that we are prepared, should drought conditions return to the region,” said Mr See.
The permanent restrictions allow for domestic premises to use water outdoors for three days a week, before 10am in the morning and after 4pm in the afternoon. This usage is based on your house number. For houses with an odd number or no house number, your days are Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. For houses with even numbers your days are Saturday, Monday and Wednesday.
For additional information on water restrictions, please contact your local Council office in Warwick on 4661 0300 or Stanthorpe 4681 5500, or download our Outdoor water use guide from Council’s website www.southerndowns.qld.gov.au.
Please see Council’s website for many other handy tips for water saving around the house and garden.
