The Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery is now brimming with three varied exhibitions provided by five unique artists.
Maggie Brockie, Sue Jurd and Margaret Oban Dowe have teamed up to present “The Spaces in Between”. Dyes and silk, found objects with clay, plus paint and paper and tea dyed sisal rope – these three artists are preparing to engage the viewers with their most adventurous exhibition yet.
Tom Spence will present his eight canvas exhibition titled “Project ONE” in the lower gallery. The concept of this work is to explore the relationship between each canvas, consisting of a specific form, colour and a corresponding chakra in the human body. Corresponding coloured lollies, plus hand dyed silk fabric and special music are also included to encourage the viewer to become ONE with the display.
Was it a cigar box, matchbox or a hidden treasure box that you filled with trinkets and memories as a child? “The Phantasmagoria of the Interior” explores the complex relationship between human beings and confidential domestic spaces, in this case, the box. Artist Dorothy Haig has created elegant silk scrolls, hand dyed and painted, overflowing from carved boxes.
These intriguing presentations showcase the amazing talents of our local artists and will be on display until December 2. The official opening will be Friday, November 2.
The Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Friday; weekends from 10am to 1pm. For further information telephone the Gallery on 4681 1874. See you at the Gallery!
