I heartily agree with what Sarah Moles has to say about mining in the Warwick area and indeed many other areas of Queensland.
Surely a good example of why it should not happen is the mining operation at Kingaroy, closed down due to contamination of underground water.
Also, how much good farming land is going to be lost to us? As legislation stands at the moment, coal seam gas mining companies can just walk onto any property, some of them having been in the one family for generations. All these properties have sustained generations of Australians through farming. Now, our government allows unlimited imports of goods from foreign countries, and many of our local growers are being phased out.
Should this government not be putting the needs of Australians and Australian farmers first and foremost? Why do they allow these mining leases to destroy a beautiful country and our way of life? Also, why are they allowing large tracts of our land to be sold to overseas investors? No other country would allow this. I think we should all be very aware of what is going on around us, and see what can be done about it.
