Waste woes

There are, occasionally, times when you wish you were wrong in your predictions. Only two weeks ago I wrote of the possible outcome of the decision, by Council to lock gates at tips.
With the cost of manufacturing gates, fitting chains and locks I imagined the intended outcome would be a better, more cost effective, system, in spite of it having been a failure elsewhere. Yesterday I visited Glen Aplin’s Waste Tip; there was more on the outside of the fence than in the tips, with some rubbish already blowing up the road – exactly what I had foretold.
Now the Council will have to allocate extra funds for the cleaning up. I’ll not claim to have an answer to the problem tippers, but clearly this isn’t one either.

Tom Edgar,
Glen Aplin
