Warwick Netball hosted the first Darling Downs HART Sport Inter District Carnival of the year late last month, and while the weather wasn’t kind to players and spectators alike, the carnival was a resounding success and a great start to the representative season for many teams.

Twelve associations, 66 teams, 130 games of netball, approximately 650 players aged 11 years to opens, and upwards of 1000 players, team officials, parents and spectators enjoyed the facilities of Warwick Netball’s Barnes Park courts, and Scots College courts for the day.

Warwick Netball Secretary Linda Bunch said the support of their association committee and members, plus the wider local community including Scots College, local businesses and service providers ensured the day ran smoothly and with success.

Warwick Netball’s seven teams competed well, with all teams announcing the day a success, with great outcomes and positivity for the season ahead.

Warwick 13 years team coach Lisa Van Haren declared her team “came to play today” and had resounding results to back this statement with wins against Lockyer 25:2, Chinchilla 16:11, Maranoa 19:10, and Laidley 36:2.

The Warwick Opens, 16 years, 14 years, and 11 years all secured three wins and one loss for the day.

Warwick 12s finished the day with two wins and two losses, and the 15 years team drew very competitive games in a combined 15/16 years age division to take one win and three losses for the day.

All team coaches noted the day was a great first carnival and are keen for the teams to grow their performances from here forth.

The Darling Downs Inter District series consists of five one day carnivals. Highfields Netball Association hosts the second carnival on Sunday 28 May, with carnivals at Roma, Laidley, and Toowoomba to follow.
