Big performance for Rats

The Warwick Water Rats have gone down by just two points in the a tough Darling Downs Rugby Clash against Goondiwindi Emus in Goondiwindi at the weekend.

The Water Rats, who were second on the Darling Downs Rugby Union B Grade ladder going into the match went down 14-12 to the Emus, who are always tough at home.

Water Rats president Tess Cullen was full of praise for her side despite the loss.

“An outstanding performance for the Rats this weekend falling short of the two points against Goondiwindi Rugby Union Club,” she said.

“Some outstanding performances from Taniela (Dan) this week, earning Player of the Match for his powerful runs gaining massive post contact metres and line breaks.

“Dan was also incredible in defence, his hard work and great tackling making him a huge force.

“Michael earned two points for his incredible performance, his physical playing style and continuous energy to keep running the ball made him a fearsome opponent. Michael busted through every advantage line and also busted over the try line earning the Water Rats their second try.

“Semisi had his first run as a loose forward this weekend and certainly didn’t shy away from contact and running the ball.

“His quick picks from the ruck along with his quick speed placed Goondiwindi on the back foot. Misi was also explosive in some number eight picks off the back of some powerful scrums, earning him one point for an outstanding performance.

“Our mighty Water Rats have a well-deserved this break this coming weekend but will be training as hard as ever to continue to the season just as strong as we have started.”

“Honestly even though we lost, this was a massive massive score for us.

“We haven’t had a score that close at Goondiwindi away for years and years.

“Goondi away have got to be one of the toughest all season so this is huge and I think makes a big statement to the rest of the competition that we are a team to be taken very seriously this year.

“We also had many of our players unavailable so it was fantastic to still get this result. We have a bye this weekend but will continue to train.”
