Geitz returns

Allora’s Laura Geitz will return to the Queensland Firebirds in 2012.
The proud Queenslander who has a strong history with the Firebirds, said she wouldn’t dream of signing anywhere else, especially after the Firebirds’ stellar season.
“I am delighted to be returning to the Mission Queensland Firebirds for what I hope will be another very successful year for the team,” Geitz said.
After her recent success at the World Netball Championships, Geitz cemented her status as one of Australia’s top defenders.
The 2011 Mission Queensland Firebirds Player’s Player and Holden Player of the Year helped lead the Firebirds to their 2011 ANZ Championship Premiership victory as vice-captain, stepping up on court after captain Lauren Nourse suffered a season-ending injury.
Geitz has recently launched a range of sporting apparel, which she has been selling at netball carnivals around Queensland. This range is in addition to her highly successful Laura Geitz Clinics.
“It’s great to be able to share my skills with other young netballers and help them in reaching their netball goals,” Geitz said of her clinics.
“Once I return from my Diamonds commitments, I plan on offering a range of clinics around Queensland, prior to starting pre-season training with the Firebirds.”
Geitz is one of the first players in the 2012 Queensland Firebirds line-up to be announced.
Although coach Roselee Jencke is not giving too much away about her plans for the team, she has promised a number of familiar faces would be joining Laura in 2012.
“Fans and supporters will have to wait and see, but I am sure they will be happy with the 2012 line-up,” Jencke said.
Jencke, who led the Firebirds in their perfect 2011 season, said she was looking forward to another successful year with the Queensland team.
“As a team, 2011 was all about winning and the team. We focused on one game at a time, with the ultimate aim of a perfect season,” she said.
“In 2012 the Firebirds will work towards continuing the momentum of winning to build on the success of 2011.”
