Battle continues

Although the Slade Lives Again group can now have a breather, after months of hard work culminated last week with the lodgement of their tender document, members say the battle is not over yet. Speaking at the tender launch at Slade Campus last Thursday night, president Ian Perkins stressed the need to continue lobbying the Southern Downs Regional Council prior to the tender being assessed at this month’s round of council meetings. Mr Perkins said residents who wanted to retain Slade Campus for community use needed to show their support by writing letters to the newspapers and councillors. “We need to keep the pressure on the council and show the support we have,” he told the meeting attended by more than 60 community members. Mr Perkins paid tribute to all residents who helped in the tender process. “I think Warwick is pretty safe in your hands,” he said. Vice-president Margaret McKinnon shared his sentiments. “We sincerely thank you for your enormous support. Our community is a great one and we’re proud of working for you,” Mrs McKinnon said. “This is probably the most rewarding thing I’ve been a part of,” she said.
