Maintenance funding of $298,341 for 37 schools

Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay has welcomed a $298,341 injection of state funding for maintenance projects at 37 local schools.
Of this $162,233 has been allocated to Drummond Memorial School ($80,000) for an electrical upgrade and McIntyre High School ($82,233) to upgrade roofs, gutters, stormwater and drainage.
Woolbrook Public School will receive $45,000 for upgrading and additions to heating as well as $1779 in additional maintenance funding.
The remainder will be distributed to 34 local primary schools for self determined maintenance projects through the Local Decisions Action Plan (LDAP).
“This represents a major boost for school maintenance projects in the local area,” Mr Torbay said. “Keeping facilities in good order and upgrading them where necessary is a constant issue for our schools and this funding will certainly hit the right spot,” he said.
“I particularly welcome the injection of untied grants to allow local school communities to select their own priorities. This empowers school communities and allows local autonomy in decision making.
“I visit many local schools each year and there are always so many maintenance projects on hold, waiting for relatively small amounts of funding to complete.”
