Riding for a cause

Chris Murphy prepares for the Nissan K’s 4 Country Kids bike ride.
Local Nissan dealer principal, Chris Murphy, will be taking part in the Nissan K’s 4 Country Kids bike ride on August 24-26.
The ride starts in Dalby and passes through Tara and Miles before finishing in Chinchilla on Sunday morning – a total of 260km.
The ride is to raise much needed funds for the Wonder Factory at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Each year, more than 37,000 children from all over Queensland and Northern New South Wales are cared for by the hospital.
Many are battling serious illnesses and injuries and can spend days, weeks and even months away from home, family and loved ones.
The Wonder Factory is a fun-filled interactive room at the hospital and is staffed each day of the year by volunteers who give up their time to play with patients and their siblings.
At the Wonder Factory, children can participate in arts and crafts, play computer games, have their face painted, meet new friends and much more.
Due to severe burns, infectious diseases, respiratory conditions and even injuries, some children are simply not well enough to visit the Wonder Factory. The dedicated volunteers organise toys, games, DVDs, crafts and face painting and play with the children in their wards.
“This is the second year I have taken part in the ride and it is one of the most rewarding things I have ever been involved in. Last year we were able to raise over $200,000 from the ride,” Mr Murphy said.
“This year is the 10th and final year of the ride and we are trying to raise even more. Nissan has kindly donated a Nissan X-Trail 4×2 to be raffled and tickets are available for $2 each. “I have purchased $1400 worth of tickets and we are giving them to our customers when making purchases in the dealership,” he said.
If you would like to help, you can donate by visiting www.imworkingwonders.com.au/chrismurphyisworkingwonders or drop into the Nissan dealership in Victoria Street. All donations over $2 are tax deductable.
