Pennisi said that Emu Swamp Dam would be good for agriculture and the town. In the last 12 months there have been six good big farms closed down, not for the lack of water, it is high costs and low returns.
I was told there could be another eight farms close down next year. As for the town, the ratepayers cannot afford for the water to be pumped back to Stanthorpe.
My advice to Pennisi and Joyce’s is to raise the wall on Storm King Dam and the ratepayers of the town will be able to afford the water. There is no need for extra for agriculture as, in the next 10 years, there will be no farms left in the Granite Belt. I would be too happy to educate Pennisi and Joyce’s on the cost of water.
