Local café barrels awards

Relative newcomers to the Granite Belt, Matt and Bobbi Wells of Barrel Room Cafe, won Best Restaurant in a Winery for the Brisbane Darling Downs Region at last week’s Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence.
Owner and chef Matt Wells said “it has been an absolute pleasure for myself and Bobbi to establish our very own restaurant in the heart of Queensland’s premier wine region and an honour to have been able to do this in one of Queensland’s most iconic wineries.”
“That we have been able to achieve such an amazing result in just two years of operation is a tribute to our staff and to the Puglisi family for having the faith and trust in us to make this venture possible,” he said.
“We are also lucky to have such a great selection of local produce available, which I always attempt to incorporate as much as possible into our ever changing and evolving menu.”
Matt and Bobbi Wells, owners and operators of the Barrel Room Cafe, moved to the Granite Belt from the Sunshine Coast just two years ago and have been steadily building a reputation for excellence ever since with the restaurant now open 6 days a week from Wednesday through to Sunday (closed Tuesday).
This is the first year the Barrel Room Cafe has nominated for the awards and will automatically qualify as a finalist at the national awards for excellence on October 28 in Brisbane.
The awards are held in each state every year and are considered the most dependable and authoritative guide to Australia’s best restaurants. With more than 500 trained judges and 2500+ entrants, the Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence set the national benchmark, specifically designed to objectively recognise and promote industry best practice.
