Lester set for December finals
Judy Lester has qualified for the Warwick women’s golf Medal of Medallist final in December after taking out the February round of the Warwick RSL-sponsored mid-week month medal.
Lester took home the division one prize, with 72 nett, surviving a countback from Jo Antee who also had a good round in the competition on 28 February.
Sharron Cooper continued her good form to take out Division two, with a great 68 nett, with Roslyn Darton being the runner up with 70 nett. The front nine was won by Jill Barnes who played to her handicap.
The pro pin was shared between Margaret Adcock, Sharron Cooper, Judy Lester, and Melanie McLennan. All of these fine players were within 1240mm’s of the 11th hole. Approaches for the day were won out by Anna Cox, and Jo Antee in division one, while only one was won in division two by Di Johnston.
An action-packed weekend saw some scorching golf, which has set the pace for the club championship rounds. The first round of the championships also incorporated the Birdie Bistro and Bar Monthly Medal. Sam Hinze played some great golf to win division 1 with 72 nett, with Anna Cox the runner up with 73 nett. Great golf Ladies.
Division two saw Carole Brandon back to her good form with 74 nett, with Trish Bell hot on her heels with 76 nett. The putting for Division two was won by Jo McAntee with only 23 putts, and Roslyn Darton in div 2 with 28 putts, on a countback from Carole.
The pro pin was shared amongst Melanie McLennan, Donna Keogh, Anna Cox, and Sam Hinze.
The approaches were won by Sam Hinze and Gwen Mills in division one and Yvonne Pinington and Trish Bell in div two.
Sunday saw much nicer weather for the second round of the Club Championships. Although the skies were grey and did open up a little, it was somewhat cooler than it has been for some time.
This round, sponsored by Danny and Anne Lyons from Danny Lyons Sports Store, was won by the ever-consistent Yvonne Pinington, with a solid 72 nett, closely followed by Sam Hinze with 73 nett. Both Ladies putting themselves firmly in the leaderboard for the championships. Players in the rundown went to Jo McAntee 74, Maria Carey 76, Margaret Adcock 78, and Narelle Norris 79 nett CB. The pro pin was shared amongst Danielle Seibel, Mary Young, Judy Lester and Donna Keogh.
So, with the first two rounds over, and two rounds to play, the leader boards are drawn up and they look like this….
A Grade is being led by Sam Hinze with 155 after the two rounds, with Jo McAntee coming in next with 174.
B Grade is being led by Annice Payne on 202 after the two rounds, and Roslyn Darton and Trish Bell not far behind, both on 207.
C Grade is being led by Yvonne Pinington with 215, followed by Carole Brandon on 220.
Visitors scoop Apple and Grape pool
A Caboolture team have taken out the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival golf events two person ambrose at Stanthorpe golf club on Friday 1 March.
A good field for the day and some good scores returned and sponsor for the day was again Crisps Coaches. Great to see not only local players in the field but a number of visitors also playing in the day.
There was a shot gun start at the start of play with all teams hopeful of a good result. In the end, the team of B Jones and M Bryson (Caboolture GC) took the honours. They returned a score of gross 68, four below the course par, and their small handicap was enough for them to secure the win.
Visiting players from Bribie Island courses were in the winners section with J Heffernam and S Langham taking runner up. This team had the lowest gross score of 67 off the stick but a smaller handicap was not helpful for their final nett result being two shots back from the winners.
First team to feature in the run down were also from Bribie Island with K Robertson and J Liddell being successful. With an extended run down on offer for the day, a number of teams left with a voucher for their effort on the day.
Pin shots were also on offer for the day for both men and ladies. J Fraser had the closest at hole three, Aaron Simmers held on at No 12 and Richie Reardon collected for his tee shot at 17. The ladies pin shots were claimed by Lorraine Evans at No 12 and Neta Thouard collected at No. 17.
The presentation was held at the end of competition and a good crowd was in attendance for this. Appreciation to Glen Turnbull for representing the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival and presenting the prizes on behalf of the sponsor, Crisps Coaches.
The day ran very smoothly, thanks to the work done by a number of people. There were quite a few of them including club captain, Brad Silver and his helpers, Trevor and Tom who kept the players well fed, president Len and bar workers as well others who helped out in some way. Special mention to our greenkeeper, Bill, for again having the course and greens in such good shape for all the golf. The one comment from many of the visitors to the course is how good the greens are.
There was not a competition on Saturday 2 March, most were golf tired by then. Instead, it was off to the town for the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival and the main parade for the day. Lucky the fireworks just managed to beat the storm on the day.
For Stanthorpe golfers, Saturday 9 March is the next competition which is the March monthly medal stroke and putting and also the first of three rounds for the Pike Trophy. Sponsor for the medal event is Beckett’s Pest Control, thanks to Todd Beckett. Time sheet for bookings are on-line.
Stanthorpe Women’s Golf
Lisa Stuart continued to demonstrate her excellent golfing skills taking out the single stableford competition was the event at Stanthorpe at the weekend.
A good roll up of eight ladies competed with Stuart winning outright with 32 points. Neta Thouard also had a good game and was runner up with 29 points. Pin shots were won by Lisa on the 12th, Lynette Ludlow on the 5/14th, Linda Kelly on the 7/16th and Neta on the 17th.
